Fabrizio Romano has named the player Real Madrid and Florentino Perez originally wanted before Julian Alvarez.

The €150 million Real Madrid transfer saga for this summer seems to be headed nowhere. Florentino Perez is back, but no Galactico seems to be in sight.

One of the main talking points during Perez's presidential campaign was a €150 million offer for one of the best players in world football.

Eventually, that turned out to be Julian Alvarez, and the bid was promptly rejected by Atletico Madrid.

However, some theories have already been doing the rounds that it might have been done just to make things more difficult for Barcelona while also keeping the promise of making a €150 million bid for a player.

Originally, Real Madrid might have actually been planning an offer for none other than Michael Olise before it became clear that Bayern Munich had no intention of entertaining any, which led Los Blancos to change course.

One could argue that Olise is the best individual player in the world right now. He had a stellar season with Bayern Munich in which the winger produced 22 goals and 31 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

Those numbers are staggering. And as if they were not impressive enough already, he also scored a hat-trick in France's recent outing against Northern Ireland right before the World Cup kicks off.

He is playing at a Ballon d'Or-level right now and it is hard to imagine who could stop France at the World Cup, if Olise, Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe are in full flow at the same time.

Coming back to Real Madrid's interest in Olise, Fabrizio Romano said about the matter while speaking on his YouTube channel:

"I told you, for Olise, there is no chance. Real Madrid wanted to try, Florentino Perez wanted to try, 150 million euros, but no chance. No chance because Bayern didn't even want to negotiate, didn't even want to discuss, but the intention of Florentino Perez was to try for Michael Olise. I can absolutely confirm that, and it was also confirmed by people internally at Real Madrid to those who are close to the club."

It would be safe to say that Olise would have been a Galactico signing and then some. He has proven himself as one of the best in the world since joining Bayern Munich. And at 24 years of age, he seems to be getting better with time.

Some have questioned whether Alvarez would be worth that kind of transfer fee. Those doubts might not exist when it comes to Olise.

Bayern Munich seem intent on keeping Olise at the club though. And as things stand, there is very little reason for the Frenchman to try to engineer a move away from Bavaria.

So, Olise might remain a dream transfer target for Real Madrid for many years to come. And do not be surprised if you see the Frenchman on the Ballon d'Or podium soon.
