Real Madrid superstar forward, Kylian Mbappe, has officially won the club's Player of the Month award for August, the opening month of the 26/27 campaign.
Despite a very long season with France at the FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has made another electric start to the 26/27 season.
After a so and so performance in the opener away to RCD Espanyol, the 27-year old scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win at home to Real Sociedad, before then getting on the scoresheet in the 4-0 win at home to Malaga.
The following game against Real Betis was much more disappointing for both Mbappe and the team, with the Frenchman missing four big chances, including his penalty in stoppage time that was saved.
Nevertheless, that game was in September, so had no impact on his form in August. As a result, he has today (Thursday, the 10th of September) been officially named the Real Madrid Player of the Month for August.
He wins the award over fellow nominees Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, VInicius Jr and Federico Valverde. Truth be told, Guler can perhaps feel a little aggrieved, he has started the season very well and kept club record signing Yan Diomande out of the starting XI, which is seriously no easy feat at all and is a testament to his excellent form.
Owing to that form, it has been widely reported that the young Turk will be rewarded with a new and improved contract at the club, with a "big salary increase", so it is safe to say he did very well. As did Bellingham, who looks to be back to his scoring best, and appears to have added another layer of creativity to his game so far.
Still, it is certainly no disgrace that Mbappe has won the award, considering his form over those two games, even if Guler and Bellingham were better against Espanyol in the first game. When he is at his electric best, there are few, if any, better in the world than him.
Despite the game against Betis, he is back on track to be in contention again after his goal against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening, likewise with Federico Valverde. Sadly for Guler, he was suspended for that game, whilst Vinicius and Bellingham were certainly far from their best, in front of goal anyway, missing some presentable opportunities, something even acknowledged by the latter on social media.
