RB Leipzig Coach Says Thibaut Courtois Made the Difference for Real Madrid

RB Leipzig coach Martin Demichelis spoke after the end of this Wednesday's match in which his team fell 4-1 to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. The Germans tried through different routes to score against the merengues, but, as always, Belgian Thibaut Courtois was in great form and protected the goal well whenever he was required.

"It has been complicated; we cannot be happy with the result, but we did not deserve to go into halftime losing. I think we have had very good moments, and we have shown our faces. The team has shown other capabilities compared to the defeat against Bayern. At the Bernabeu, we have already seen these matches. It seems like you have it to win, but it is not like that. We felt comfortable, but the individual play Madrid has is complicated to match. I saw it as always; it is going to be one of the favorites," he began.

The Argentine insisted that his team did a great job despite the defeat, since visiting the Bernabeu is not an easy task for anyone. "Today we have been a different team; you can lose at the Bernabeu. We did not feel uncomfortable when we did not have the ball because Madrid was not generating many chances for us.

Courtois has shown his hierarchy with two great saves. In the second half, we defended badly; we threw ourselves forward on impulse, and Madrid got to you. A lot of pure hierarchy from Mbappe and Diomande; I will keep the good image of the first half."

Finally, he was asked about his opinion regarding the great performance Arda Guler and Yan Diomande showed, who were easily the figures of the match alongside Kylian Mbappe. "It does not surprise me, and regarding Diomande, it depends on him. It is going to depend on his head, not on his technical ability. Football is played a lot on the outside nowadays, and he has that profile," Demichelis concluded.

Without a doubt, Jose Mourinho can be happy with what the team did on Wednesday. Despite having had a somewhat tentative first half, since neither of the two teams proposed much offensively, the team knew how to hold on and, with great effectiveness in the second half, set the definitive 4-1 scoreline that gave them the three points and the possibility of finishing this matchday in fourth place in the standings.

Now, it is time to switch from Champions League mode to LaLiga mode, since on Sunday the most important match for Madrid in this first half of the season will take place. A not-so-convincing start by the Chamartin side in the league caused two painful defeats, one against Real Betis and another against Atletico de Madrid, which increased the gap with Barcelona, which maintains a perfect pace in the league. A victory will drastically shorten that gap and put the competition for the lead in Spain red hot.
