According to highly credible reports on Tuesday evening, Real Madrid are now set to complete their first signing of this 26/27 summer transfer window
Although the 25/26 Real Madrid season is not long over, there will be plenty of work going on in the background to reshape the squad, in an attempt to avoid a disappointing season for a third consecutive season.
There have already been links to new players, such as Ibrahima Konate, who is departing English giants Liverpool this summer as a free agent after five years at the club. Meanwhile, there have been frequent reports of interest in Manchester City’s Rodri, as well as Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace as a back up plan for the 2024 Ballon D’or winner.
One other player who has been linked to the club is Inter Milan Denzel Dumfries, who was first properly mentioned last night. Well, there is no rest for the wicked as they say. Indeed not, as we already have a “Here We Go” from journalist Fabrizio Romano regarding the Dutch international player.
He states that Real Madrid will trigger the €20m release clause in the player’s contract, and that the player has agreed personal terms. With all of that in mind, there is actually not a lot of negotiating that needs to be done, hence a deal has been sorted so quickly.
The journalist also said that Dumfries will officially be announced after the presidential elections, which take place this Sunday, the 7th of June 2026. Interestingly, he also name checks Konate.
Well, certainly an interesting signing. He is not the best fit for the team. He has never really played as a right-back, in a four, at the top level before. He is someone who thrives playing in a back five, where he can crash the box and contribute with goals and assists.
But, there have been issues defensively, both for club and country. So, that is something that will need to be considered next season. Particularly in a team that are being coached by Jose Mourinho.
Another concern is that in the last three seasons, Dumfries has missed as many as 44 games. Two of those have been through illness, and the other 42 through injury. That said, 16 of those were as a result of surgery, so hopefully that particular injury is now behind him as a result of the surgery itself.
One other positive is that €20m is very little these days. If the club are able to sign him and Konate for a combined €20m, then this allows funds to be spent elsewhere, both in the starting XI and to try and improve the depth, which has clearly been an issue in the past couple of years.
Plus, getting a deal done before the World Cup - which Dumfries will be apart of with the Netherlands - is also a massive plus. Listen, fair play.
