In what most people expected to be a non eventful third place play off game, it proved to be anything but, and two Real Madrid stars once again did their thing.
With wounds still fresh for France and England after their World Cup semi final exits in midweek, both teams locked horns in what is now called the "Bronze Medal match" in Miami on Saturday night, and therefore there was action for Real Madrid stars.
For the first time in the tournament, new signing Ibrahima Konate was named in the France starting XI by manager Didier Deschamps in his final game in charge. Despite plenty of rotation, Kylian Mbappe again lead the line, whilst Aurelien Tchouameni was named on the bench. Jude Bellingham was named amongst the subs for England.
The first half turned out to be as surprising as a third placed game possibly can be, with England taking the lead after just three minutes, before doubling that lead 18 minutes in. By half time, it was 4-0, with France just incredibly open every single time.
At the break, Deschamps made several changes, with Konate one of those taken off. Truth be told, a bit of a nightmare for him. Just three minutes into the second half, Mbappe ran onto the end of a through ball for his ninth goal of the tournament, and 21st all time at the World Cup, equalising Lionel Messi.
Then, just six minutes after that, the Real Madrid talisman turned provider, as he put Bradley Barcola in on goal with a through ball of his own, and it was suddenly game on at 4-2.
Midway through the second half, Mbappe again got on the end of a through pass to make it 4-3, his 10th goal of this World Cup and 22nd overall, taking him outright ahead of Lionel Messi at the top of the all time charts.
It looked like Les Blues were set to complete the comeback, but England would make it 5-3 from the penalty spot. There was still time for France to score again and make it a grandstand finish at 5-4.
However, Bellingham - who had come on with around ten minutes of normal time, and nearly scored not long before - went on a superb solo run and carry before converting from close range, making it 6-4 to England and sealing the win. With this goal, he became the first ever Three Lions player to score seven goals in one World Cup. Just incredible from him, as always.
So, third place and a bronze medal for Bellingham and England, whilst Konate, Tchouameni (who remained an unused sub), and Mbappe settle for fourth, although truth be told it does not make much difference.
