According to high profile reports, a Real Madrid first team midfielder is set to extend his contract in the Spanish capital for a number of years to come.
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk about Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni departing the club.
Talk of an exit began to seriously get spoken about after his infamous spat with Federico Valverde towards the end of last season. The feeling was one of them would have to go, and everything in the media points to the Uruguayan international staying at the club, so in theory that could have been what forced Tchouameni to leave.
However, it appears that that will not be the case after all. Indeed not, as it is being reported by Fabrizio Romano, Fabrice Hawkins and Pepe Alvarez that the Frenchman will sign a new contract at Real Madrid until 2031, extending his current contract by a further three years.
It is said that Manchester United "never came close" due to his high salary, and the club wanting him to stay put. Therefore, the logical thing was to renew his contract at Los Blancos. They state that Jose Mourinho was clear - he wanted both Valverde and Tchouameni to stay.
What is also interesting is that Romano states more players will sign contracts, making you wonder who exactly that could be. We know that Vinicius is now officially into the final 12 months of his contract, so you would assume that would be a priority for the club. If not, well, they risk losing him for free next summer.
Meanwhile, Brahim Diaz, who has impressed with Morocco at the World Cup, also has a contract that expires next year, as does Thibaut Courtois, who is especially important to keep. We know how many times the Belgian goalkeeper has bailed Real Madrid out over the years.
Elsewhere, Rodrygo has just two years remaining on his contract, though you assume that is a conversation for this time next year, by which point he will have (all being well), been back for a few months, and we will have at least some idea of his post injury level.
Back to Tchouameni for a second, and on the topic of injuries, it remains to be seen if he will be available for France's World Cup quarter final against Diaz and Morocco tomorrow evening. Earlier this week, he claimed that his injury is "bad", so that implies this game may come too soon, but let's see. Hopefully he is back as soon as possible regardless.
