After a superb display against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has been recognised by UEFA with a place in the Team of the Week for match day three.

On Wednesday evening, Real Madrid made it three wins from three in the UEFA Champions League, as they dispatched Bundesliga side RB Leipzig with a resounding 4-1 victory at the Bernabeu.

It was a very comprehensive and dominant performance, unlike the win over AS Roma the previous week, which saw a very poor performance covered up with three goals from set pieces in the final ten minutes of the game, with the subs saving the day.

That said, there were some issues at the back, and there was more than one occasion that the visitors could have scored, so that is something that clearly does need work on moving forwards. But, going forwards the display was absolutely scintillating at times.

A number of players looked dangerous - Arda Guler added another goal to his tally for the season, whilst Jude Bellingham and even Vinicius looked sharp. Meanwhile, Yan Diomande came off the bench to score and assist against his former club.

Perhaps the biggest stand out performer of all was Kylian Mbappe, whom also both scored and registered an assist, whilst putting in a very good performance in general during his 88 minutes on the pitch.

Well, it seems like UEFA think that way anyway, as the Frenchman has been recognised with a place in the official Team of the Week for match day three of the league phase.

The full team is; Sommer (Club Brugge); Mbuyamba (LASK), Geertruida (PSV), Carlos Augusto (Inter Milan); Foden (Manchester City), Paz (Como), Rice (Arsenal), McTominay (Napoli), Doue (PSG), Mbappe, Kane (Bayern Munich).

Truth be told, some others may feel a little aggrieved not to be in there. Perhaps the fact Diomande did not start the game counts against him, though some would then argue that it makes his display in limited time even more impressive.

Still, some of the other players there did have some very good performances, so it is not as if the likes of Diomande and Guler have been completely shafted or anything. And it is good to see Mbappe get the recognition his performance deserved. Not just the goal and assist, but his general display was excellent.

Last week, the 27-year old overtook Real Madrid legend Raul to become the Champions League's fifth top scorer of all time. With performances like last night, he will soon be chasing down another club legend in Karim Benzema, who currently sits in fourth place with 90 goals in the competition. Mbappe is currently on 73.
