With a trophyless campaign in sight for Real Madrid this season, they are already looking at options to reinforce their squad during the upcoming transfer window.

Real Madrid are believed to have moved away from their previous transfer policy of signing experienced, well-established superstars, as Los Blancos are now looking at the bigger picture by bringing in the most highly rated youngsters alongside the big names.

This major change began to take shape with the signing of Martin Odegaard back in 2014, and even more so after Cristiano Ronaldo's departure in 2018, as the Whites brought in the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, and numerous others in the subsequent transfer windows.

While Odegaard's signing was more of a flop, as the Norwegian failed to find his footing at the Bernabeu, he has been a pivotal figure at Arsenal ever since his move to England.

With the La Liga title now looking like a distant dream, Los Blancos are on the verge of going trophyless in two consecutive seasons, which, at a club like Real Madrid, is totally unacceptable.

As a result, Los Blancos are already looking ahead to the transfer window with the intent of ensuring the same mistakes aren't repeated next season, and despite their recent failures, the club's management will seemingly stick to their transfer policy.

According to TEAMtalk, Los Merengues have reportedly joined the race to sign highly rated Dutch midfielder Kees Smit, alongside Barcelona and other English clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool, who are also in contention.

Smit's current club, AZ Alkmaar, is likely to let their generational talent leave for a transfer fee of around €60-80million, with big-time agent Jorge Mendes in charge of negotiations.

The 20-year-old is known for his visionary passes and quick feet to beat intensive pressing, qualities that can strengthen the midfield of any side, especially Los Blancos, who have failed to replace the legendary Luka Modric since his departure in 2015.

The Dutchman has scored three goals and provided three assists in the Dutch Eredivisie so far this season, having already started 22 matches for his side.

The Dutchman has also netted one goal and provided two assists in the Europa League this campaign, and Europe is already impressed with the youngster as they prepare for his signing during the upcoming summer.

As it stands, Los Blancos would be up for a big fight, particularly against the Premier League sides who have been splashing high figures during the past few transfer windows, and also their fierce rivals Barca, with Ronald Koeman already in awe of the midfielder.
