Real Madrid superstar midfield maestro Jude Bellingham has, certainly not for the first time, broken a club record, this time overtaking a record that had lasted for several different decades.
Ever since he joined Real Madrid back in the summer of 2023, Jude Bellingham has had the knack of popping up with goals.
In his maiden season with the club, the Englishman found the back of the net 23 times (in just 42 games) before then scoring 15 times in the 24/25 season. Last time out this number reduced to eight, but his season was interrupted by injuries, so it could have been worse.
Then, so far this campaign, it has been a positive start with four strikes in 14 games. Anyone with good arithmetic skills may have noticed something there. Indeed so, as Bellingham has now scored 50 goals for Real Madrid.
He has achieved this feat in just 154 games, and in doing so, has become the club's quickest ever midfielder to reach 150 goals, beating the legendary Pizzi, who did so in 157 games back in the 1960's. The former Spain international played 561 games for Los Blancos - let's hope that one day, the 23-year old can also reach that milestone.
Now, some more cynical people would argue that Bellingham played more of a forward during the 23/24 season, in the year post Karim Benzema and pre Kylian Mbappe, where Joselu was mostly used as an option off the bench.
However, those numbers were still incredible. To score 23 goals in just 42 games is an absolutely sublime effort, especially in your first season at a new club. And even if he did play as a forward, he deserves credit for adapting to a different type of role so seamlessly.
Let's break down the goals by competition. 39 of the goals - so quite a big chunk - have come in La Liga, including 19 from that first season where the team managed to win the league.
Nine of the goals have come in the Champions League, meanwhile, and then one each in the Supercopa de Espana and Copa del Rey. Considering the team's poor record in the latter competition, a great goalscoring run for Bellingham this season would be huge. Let's see.
Aside from the 50 goals, he has also registered 35 assists, so that is 85 goal contributions so far. Feels plausible that he could reach 100 before the end of this season, especially with the level of football the team are playing recently, and the service he is receiving from the likes of Arda Guler.
