According to high level media reports, Real Madrid are once again planning to activate the buyback clause for a young La Fabrica graduate that recently departed the club for Serie A side Como.
As everybody knows, Real Madrid agreed to sell prospect Nico Paz to Serie A side Como back in the summer of 2024, with plenty of clauses included due to how talented a young player he was and is.
The 22-year old has gone from strength to strength with the Italian side, helping them qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history last season, in just their second season since promotion.
In just the team's third game in the competition, Paz became the youngest player to score and assist in the same Champions League game against Manchester United since all the way back in 2009.
However, he is not the only La Fabrica graduate to be thriving at Como. Indeed not, as central defender Jacobo Ramon, who joined Cesc Fabregas' side one year after Paz, is also doing very well over there.
The 21-year old was named in the Serie A Team of the Season last year, and has continued to impress so far this season, also scoring against United in the Champions League, and there have been calls for him to receive his maiden call up to the Spain national team.
Owing to this exceptional form over the last year and a bit, it is being reported by journalist Matteo Moretto (as relayed by theMadridZone) that Real Madrid have decided to activate their buyback clause for Ramon next summer.
He says the decision is "100% done", and will cost less than nine million Euros. What remains undecided is the player's immediate future thereafter. The club will decide whether or not to keep him, or sell him to the Premier League, as he has a lot of interest from England.
Interesting. Now, this feels a different case to Paz. who at Real Madrid has 23-year old Jude Bellingham and 21-year old Arda Guler to contend with. There is less competition for Jacobo Ramon. Antonio Rudiger is now 33 years old and his best days are behind him. Dean Huijsen is just 21 and has mostly looked good this season, but Ibrahima Konate is turning 29, and Ramon could be the long term successor to him.
Should, as briefly touched on earlier, Ramon get a call up to the Spain senior side, then maybe we will get a taste of how he looks partnered with Huijsen, which could make Real Madrid's mind up either way. Certainly one to keep an eye on, this.
