With Real Madrid currently having their best injury luck in years and years, Jorge Picon has broken down exactly why Jose Mourinho's team are going through much fewer injuries than before.
So far this season, things have been pretty kind to Real Madrid on the injury front.
There are no players currently sidelined with an injury suffered since the start of the campaign. Rodrygo and Raul Asencio are currently out with pre existing injuries, and well, that’s it.
This is a far cry from recent years, where the club have been ravaged with injuries all season long, including to key players at key points of the season. It is still early days, but in previous years the injury list would already be rising by this point.
So, what has changed? Well, Jorge Picon has taken to YouTube to explain for us.
He states that Jose Mourinho has given ‘main focus’ to (physical) recovery after games in order to solve the ongoing injury problems from previous seasons. This improvement stems from every player having a more individualised program. Everyone knows what they have to do, and how much time they will spend in the gym.
Furthermore, the organisation of sessions are different. Whilst beforehand it was done [just] before each session, and now they focus on a couple of days a week. Mourinho also demands the players to recover in Valdebebas (the training centre) to be better controlled.
It is said that all of the players are super committed when it comes to the work that needs to be done in the gym. Physical coach Antonio Dias is called "the professor" and they (the players) talk about him as a great professional.

Whilst Real Madrid are conscious that at some point the number of injuries increase, they are very happy with how the season has started compared to previous ones.
So, all in all very good stuff. There is no doubt that the club have massively benefitted from the current situation. Although things have not quite been perfect, with the team still three points off Barcelona despite winning El Clasico, it has overall been a solid start to the campaign.
Last season, for example, Jude Bellingham played 2717 minutes across the whole season, the fewest of his entire professional career, even fewer than his first season as a professional at Birmingham City, when he was just 16 years old.
This season, he has already played 1046 minutes, which is more than a third of that total, and we are still just in October. It is these sort of gains that could be the difference between winning silverware and not doing so.
