According to reports in the media on Friday, Los Blancos are preparing to loan out a first team player during the summer transfer window after a difficult season

Last summer, Real Madrid moved to bring in highly rated teenager Franco Mastantuono from Argentine giants River Plate, for a fee of just over 40 million Euros.

The youngster had several clubs from Europe after his signature after scoring seven goals and providing four assists at just 17 years of age, whilst also featuring at the Club World Cup.

However, it was Los Blancos who were able to beat the queue to secure his services. Many had likened the signing to a then 22 year old Angel di Maria back in the summer of 2010.

Safe to say, things have not worked out to date. So far, Mastantuono has played just 1291 minutes across all competitions, which is just under 14.5 full games worth of football. This has come despite Rodrygo being out since early March, and Endrick being loaned out to Lyon in January.

Well, the Brazilian may not be the only Real Madrid forward loaned out in search of more regular minutes. Indeed, as Diario AS are reporting that the club plan to loan Mastantuono out this summer.

They mention that the club were hurried into the signing due to interest from PSG, but that there is no clear pathway for him in the team right now, and a loan would make sense.

Hopefully the club can do what they did with Endrick. When the teenager joined the French side, it was widely reported that there were strict clauses in the loan, essentially meaning that there would be financial repercussions for Lyon if he did not start a certain amount of games.

This is what they should do with Mastantuono, wherever it is he ends up. It will be interesting to see where he goes. Is there much benefit of going back to South America? He has already shown what he can do there, but he would feel comfortable.

A loan to somewhere else in Spain could be useful. A young player going on loan can be pretty daunting, so going to a Spanish speaking club would help him be able to settle. It would also help him adapt to playing in La Liga, which would be very handy indeed.

You have to be honest - it felt like a very big investment at the time, and even more so now. It was a lot of money to pay for someone who still struggles to get game time despite an injury to another player, and the loaning out of another. That said, he is still very young, and there is plenty of time to turn things around.
