Real Madrid are preparing to take on Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu, and they could miss one of their more experienced players, as their recovery is still in progress.
Following their recent setback last Saturday against Mallorca, Real Madrid will look to turn things around when they face Bayern Munich in the two-legged Champions League quarter-final.
Now, with the chances of winning La Liga looking far off, Los Blancos would look to concentrate on what's in their hands with their full strength, in order to salvage the already awful campaign so far.
Some of their key players are now back to full fitness and would look to take the field against Bayern Munich, as the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinícius Jr. are all poised to make the difference tomorrow.
Although it seems one of their more experienced players, Ferland Mendy, is still continuing with his recovery process, as a likely return during the first leg is now ruled out, according to Rodra (h/t Football Espana).
Earlier, it was thought that Mendy would have recovered in time for Bayern, but the recent update on the veteran left-back has been disheartening for the club's management, as Alvaro Arbeloa would love to have all of his key players fit and running during the final phases of the campaign.
This comes on the back of a reasonably poor performance from both of Madrid's full-backs, Alvaro Carreras and Trent Alexander-Arnold, at the Son Moix.
Arbeloa decided to bench Fran Garcia after his back-to-back brilliant displays against Manchester City and Atletico Madrid before the international break, and brought Carreras back into the starting 11, who failed to deliver a defining performance on the occasion.
Both Garcia and Carreras can be reasonably better in attack than Mendy, but the Frenchman's defensive qualities have seen him start the high-stakes matches during the past few seasons under both Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti.
With the likes of Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, and Harry Kane running at them, Los Blancos would have to be compact at the back if they are to restrict Bayern during the two-legged tie, and the presence of Mendy could have given Arbeloa a significant upper hand during the game.
As it stands, the 30-year-old could be ready in time for the return leg at the Allianz Arena although it would be unlikely that the manager would choose Mendy over his other two options at left back as Frenchman has only featured in only five matches so far this season and it could well turn out to be his final season at the Bernabeu as probable summer exit looks likely to be on the cards.
