It looks like Real Madrid remain in talks to sign the £120 million-rated player as a deal for Marc Cucurella will be completed after the World Cup.
Real Madrid seem serious this summer. The club were already set to bring in Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva. Now, the name of Marc Cucurella has been added to that list.
The club have agreed a €60 million transfer package, €55 million fixed and €5 million in bonuses, to sign Cucurella from Chelsea. Personal terms are not a problem.
It is a bold move from Cucurella. The La Masia graduate is set to join Real Madrid, after being linked with a return to Barcelona all summer.
Real Madrid do not seem satisfied though. Not even close. In fact, it looks like they remain interested in signing one of Cucurella's teammates from Chelsea.
Enzo Fernandez's agent has been in talks with Real Madrid since April. So, this is a move that could become possible after the World Cup.
Fernandez has been linked with Real Madrid going back to his days at Benfica. But back then, Chelsea were able to swoop in and get a £106 million move done.
Fernandez seems keen to leave Chelsea this summer though. In fact, he even liked Fabrizio Romano's 'Here We Go' post on Instagram, which confirmed Cucurella's move to Real Madrid.
It is no secret that Real Madrid are Fernandez's dream destination. But Chelsea will not make it easy. Let's not forget, the Blues did get what they were looking for when it comes to Cucurella as well.
According to Ben Jacobs, Fernandez is keen to join Cucurella at Real Madrid. But Chelsea's asking price remains £120 million.
Chelsea are calm about the situation, but will be willing to let Fernandez leave at the right price. Real Madrid are currently deciding on the type of midfield profile they want. Mateus Fernandes and Rodri are two other names that have been discussed.
In recent times, we have rarely seen Real Madrid go out and spend that kind of money on signing players.
But many view Fernandez as the midfielder who could fill Toni Kroos' void. The Argentine plays the role of a box-crasher at Chelsea, but he might be more effective as the one dictating the play from deep, as he does for the Argentine national team.
Even then, £120 million is a huge sum. That being said, Real Madrid have not signed the €150 million player that was promised. So, do not rule out the possibility of that turning out to be Fernandez some time down the summer window.
