According to high profile reports on Sunday evening, a Real Madrid first team player is now set to miss the remainder of the 25/26 with Real Madrid
It's safe to say that it has been a horrible season for everyone associated with Real Madrid.
For a second season in a row, the team were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, and the team are set to go back to back seasons without the La Liga title.
To rub salt into the wounds, there is a very good chance that Los Blancos will either 1) have to give arch nemesis FC Barcelona a guard of honour, or 2) see Hansi Flick's side win the league when the two teams meet on the 10th of May. Either way, far from ideal.
Well, it looks as if the bad news keeps coming. Indeed, as Josep Pederol is reporting that Kylian Mbappe "seems like" he won't play again this season due to injury.
During Friday evening's 1-1 draw away to Real Betis, the Frenchman had to come off after 83 minutes with an injury, with talk suggesting that he will have an MRI scan to find out more.
Even if it is nothing too serious, with the season more or less over for Real Madrid, perhaps all parties think it is best for him to sit the rest of the season out, particularly with the World Cup on the horizon, as Mbappe prepares to lead France out as captain for a second major tournament.
That said, there is the La Liga golden boot race for the 27-year old to contend with, as he currently sits three goals ahead of Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi, who scored the winner against Alvaro Arbeloa's side earlier this month.
As for the European golden boot, well that is looking unlikely now, as Mbappe is a whole nine goals behind Bayern Munich's Harry Kane, despite having played 246 minutes more than the Englishman.
Although there is no doubt Real Madrid's number nine is a very good player, there has been a lot of recent talk about the balance, or lack there of with him in the side. People are pointing to the very good run of form whilst he was injured, which saw the team win four straight La Liga games, as well as home and away to Manchester City.
Well, let's see. Perhaps - if this report is correct - we will see Gonzalo Garcia get another run of games to prove himself in the team under Arbeloa, who worked with him in Castilla. Should be interesting to see either way.
