Real Madrid are yet to officially announce the arrival of Denzel Dumfries and now we might just know why.
Following the end of the previous campaign, Real Madrid seemingly set their targets pretty clear, as they started the summer transfer window with a proper road map following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as their new manager.
Defense has been of utmost importance for the Whites up until now, as with the transfer window still in its initial phases, Los Blancos have already announced the arrivals of Ibrahima Konate and Marc Cucurella as the first set of defensive additions this summer.
Although, another name which came up alongside Konate before the presidential election, was Denzel Dumfries.
While Konate's arrival was made official a few days back, Dumfries is still waiting for his name to be mentioned in the Merengues' squad for the new campaign.
Every fan has been curious regarding the delay in Dumfries' official announcement, which has also given rise to a lot of speculations lately.
But a recent report Jose Manuel Moreno (h/t Madrid Universal) suggests that the player has himself asked the authorities at Los Blancos to delay the announcement till the end of Netherland's World Cup campaign.
The Whites reportedly respect and understand the right-back's choices, as he doesn't want any distractions during his national duty unlike the other three recent signings, whom the Merengues announced prior to their respective games in the ongoing tournament.
There is no doubt at all regarding the finalization of the deal as Inter Milan have already agreed on the transfer of the 30-year-old full-back for a sum of around €20 million.
Dumfries is being seen as the perfect replacement for Dani Carvajal, who left the club following the end of the previous season alongside David Alaba.
The Dutch international has been with Inter since 2021 and despite his age, Dumfries hasn't shown any signs of slowing down.
Dumfries seemingly had his problems during the previous campaign, as he missed a lot of crucial games for the Italian side with a long term injury in his ankle.
But his heroics in the season prior to that is certainly one to be in awe of, the Dutch right-back scored a total of 11 goals and provided six assists, while playing in an advanced role.
More importantly, his heroics in the Champions League semifinal tie against Barcelona during that season was more than impressive, as Dumfries scored twice and provided an assist during the first leg at Camp Nou and then went on to provide two crucial assists during the return leg as Inter advanced to the finals, only to lose 5-0 against Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
Mourinho and Madrid will now look to ounce every bit of football that has to offer and the arrival of Dumfries will add some well needed depth in the squad, as we look forward to see a healthy competition between the yet to be announced signing and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whom the club brought during the previous summer transfer window.
