Spanish giants Real Madrid will see the expiration of the contract that binds its Brazilian superstar, Vinícius Júnior, in June next year. Entering the final year of his contract, the Brazilian forward is rumoured to be leaving the club, with English Premier League side Arsenal considered as the forerunners to secure the services of Vinícius.
According to a report by TransferFeed, Michael Yormark, the president of the organisation that represents Vinícius, published a message on social media when he went to Heathrow Airport. The message included the phrase “ivamos!” and is being read as signs of potential deal between Arsenal and the agency involving the Brazilian. According to newspaper AS, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has contacted Vinícius, and told him that he will be a key part of the project if he indeed joins the Gunners.
For quite some time now, negotiations have been going on between the club authorities and Vinícius’ camp over a contract extension. However, up to now, there have been no significant advancements in the deal, with the Brazilian’s wish of earning the same amount as Kylian Mbappe, which is around €30 million per year, being the major hurdle.
However, according to an earlier report by Roundtable, Real Madrid have now put forth a new contract for the 26-year-old player on the table. As reported by ESPN, the new amount proposed to Vinícius is €22 million per year, which, although higher than his current pay, which stands at €17 million annually, is still lesser than the amount he wishes to be paid.
Vinícius Júnior, who graduated from the academy of Flamengo back in 2017, played 50 league games for the Mengão, before joining Real Madrid in 2018, and has since played 242 league fixtures for Los Merengues. He has been a pivotal part of the squad, playing important roles in 4 La Liga titles, 1 Copa Del Rey, 3 Supercopa de Españas, two UEFA Champions League titles, 2 UEFA Super Cups, 2 FIFA Club World Cups and 1 FIFA Intercontinental Cup title. Scoring in the finals of both the UEFA Champions League finals that he won, Vinícius has, for a significant time now, been considered one of the best players in world football.
