Some huge news for absolutely everybody concerned and associated with Real Madrid, as two absolutely crucial first team players are on the verge of extending their contracts at the Bernabeu
Although we are currently in the long and extended first international break of the season, there has, as always, still been plenty to talk about when it comes to Real Madrid.
For example, forward Endrick has been linked with a move to Italy and Serie A in the January transfer window, whilst several Los Blancos players have been representing their nations.
Well, now there is even more for us to sink our teeth into. Indeed so, as Fabrizio Romano has reported that both Thibaut Courtois and Arda Guler are on the verge of extending their contracts at Real Madrid.
We know that, with club policy, Courtois' extension will be for a further year to the summer of 2028, whilst Romano is reporting that Guler's deal will see him stay at the club until at least the summer of 2032.
Very good news on both fronts. Although the Belgian goalkeeper is 34, he is still one of the very best, if not the best goalkeeper in the world, and for keepers, that is essentially prime age. 34 for them is not the same as for outfielders, far from it in fact.
As for Guler, that deal feels like such a long term thing, and it is, yet he would still only be 27 when it expires, having already been at the club for three years already. Just goes to show how young he was when he joined from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023.
The two would have played each other in the UEFA Nations League during this international break, but Courtois is currently on a self imposed break from the national team, as he plans to return around this time next year for the team's Euro 2028 qualifying games. In his absence, Belgium managed to defeat Turkey 3-0.
Anyway, again, some really encouraging news for the club, on both fronts. And it is good to get these deals sorted this quickly. You especially did not want Courtois to enter the final few months of his deal and face that sort of uncertainty. From January onwards he would have been free to speak to clubs from outside of Spain too. So, overall just great news.
We will let you know once the contract extensions for both players are officially announced by the club, which seems like it will be in the coming days from now. Stay tuned here at Roundtable.
