With Mohamed Salah departing, one Reds legend eyes PSG star Ousmane Dembele as the winger needed to reignite Liverpool's attack.
Liverpool is going through a real crisis of results this season, with elimination in the Champions League quarterfinals and a disappointing standing in the Premier League. It will once again be necessary to strike hard in the transfer window and at the Reds, some dream of a certain Ousmane Dembele.
Champion of England last season, Liverpool has brutally come back down to earth. The Mersey club was eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals, and in the Premier League, it does not currently figure in the top four, which directly qualify for the Champions League.
A very disappointing season that should prompt the Reds to embark on a new project during the next transfer window. After spending more than 400 million euros last summer, the Merseyside club will face a new headache, especially as Mohamed Salah will pack his bags.
To replace the Egyptian legend of Liverpool, it will clearly be necessary to bring in someone big, and a name mentioned in the English press is Ousmane Dembele.
The Parisian Ballon d'Or winner, author of a brace against the Reds on Tuesday night in the Champions League, makes Dominic Matteo, former Liverpool defender (1992-2000), dream. "Salah is irreplaceable given his statistics and his track record. Yet they will have to find someone to replace him," the former Scottish international first said to Bet Select, before continuing.
"When you look at Premier League players currently, no one has been as good as Salah. Maybe a younger player will reach that level. When I look at clubs like Arsenal, I see players like Saka. I'm not saying Liverpool will recruit Saka, but they need someone like him, capable of playing on the wing and scoring goals," he argued, before slipping in the name of Ousmane Dembele, leader of a PSG attack that has been terrorizing Europe for nearly two years.
"There are so many players at Paris Saint-Germain that I would like to recruit. Could we go get Dembele? That would be great," Matteo said, who dreams of seeing Paris SG's number 10 in Liverpool colors next season.
Despite the slow pace of negotiations for the Frenchman's contract extension, the trend is that he will remain in the French capital. But the Reds can always try their luck, in case the discussions between PSG and Dembele drag on too long, to the point of considering an improbable departure.
