Spain’s World Cup hero Ferran Torres fuels transfer speculation by questioning his future at Barcelona, as Luis Enrique’s PSG prepares to capitalise on the forward's contract standoff.
FC Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has opened the door for a future exit from the club as PSG prowl for his signature.
Speaking in an interview with NBC's Today Show (via Foot Mercato), Spain's World Cup hero and Paris Saint-Germain target Ferran Torres revealed a sense of uncertainty regarding his future at Barcelona while reiterating the terms of his contract. "I have a contract with FC Barcelona, but in football, you never know. I'm waiting to make the right decision. I don't know yet," he said.
"My dream is to be happy.
"I only remember going crazy and running around everywhere. I can't describe that feeling with words; you have to experience it," added the 26-year-old.
After his World Cup final heroics, which led to Spain's second star on their crest, Torres became an instant sensation in the European transfer market. His fame rose so much with his clutch winner against Argentina that Barcelona's eternal rivals, Real Madrid, registered a primary interest in him (as reported in an earlier update on Roundtable). However, PSG head coach Luis Enrique has asked his sporting director, Luis Campos, to keep an eye on the player's movements, and right now, the Parisian club is doing just that.
The former Manchester City man wants to play under Enrique, who is ready to give him a more influential role in the squad than the one he currently has at Barcelona. With less than a year remaining on his current contract, he has repeatedly pushed back the Catalan side's attempts to make him sign a renewal. A lack of game time is the key reason behind Torres' snubs to Barca, and also the Blaugrana will not be able to officially put pen to paper on an extension until September due to financial fair play regulations.
PSG are monitoring the situation and expecting Torres to make a significant push for an exit soon. No other club at this point is predicted to interfere, as Les Rouge-et-Bleu remain the only interested party able to offer him a major role. Enrique will also be able to give him a strong chance at Champions League success, and this is something which the player will look forward to since it has eluded him till now in his career.
Torres' recent words is set to make ripples in the transfer market, and PSG can now finally engage with the Valencia academy graduate and Barcelona to bring him to the club.
