PSG look to exploit Real Madrid’s hesitation and Barcelona’s contract stalemate to secure Spain’s clinical World Cup-winning forward.

Paris Saint-Germain are set to receive competition from Real Madrid in their efforts to sign Ferran Torres from FC Barcelona during this summer transfer window.

According to a report by French newspaper L'Equipe, Real Madrid are keeping an eye on PSG target Ferran Torres after the 26-year-old's World Cup final clutch goal, which led to Spain's triumph over Argentina.

The Spanish capital giants are yet to make an internal call on the forward's transfer as new head coach Jose Mourinho remains undecided. Torres has faced game time issues since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021. Los Blancos have the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Gonzalo Garcia, Endrick, Brahim Diaz, Arda Guler and Rodrygo playing in similar roles to that of Torres. PSG could get the upper hand here as they have already sold Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan, while Lee Kang-in and Bradley Barcola are considered outgoing, thus opening up potential game time for the Spaniard.

PSG head coach Luis Enrique has been in contact with Torres for quite some time now to explore the possibility of a personal agreement. The player was focusing on the World Cup, and more developments are expected to be coming in the next few days as he will respond to these interests.

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is preparing an offer to extend Torres' stay at the club beyond the summer of 2027. However, they cannot proceed with an official announcement till September due to financial fair play rules haunting the Catalans.

There is no internal agreement in place with the former Manchester City man and Barcelona, and therefore, this situation can be considered a contract stalemate. The latest update about Real Madrid's entry into the race could force PSG to make an official move this week. Undoubtedly, at this moment, Les Parisiens can offer all the favourable terms to Ferran Torres over Los Merengues.

Nicknamed El Tiburón by former Barcelona manager Xavi, he received the runners-up medal with Man City in the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League final, which they lost to Premier League counterparts Chelsea. However, he lifted the English top flight title with the Pep Guardiola-led side. After joining Barca, he won the LaLiga and the Supercopa de Espana thrice, and the Copa del Rey once. Still, the Champions League trophy has eluded him.

PSG have the necessary squad to bag yet another UCL gold medal in the coming years, and Paris could emerge as the clear destination for Spain's World Cup winner.
