Sky-high transfer fees and agent disputes force PSG to abandon RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, clearing the path for Real Madrid to secure a blockbuster €100m deal.
PSG have decided to withdraw from the race to sign RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande.
An update by Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport reveals that Paris Saint-Germain have rescinded their interest to sign RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande after the German side reportedly demanded a 'disproportionate' amount in transfer fees.
PSG initially had an agreement on personal terms with the player's entourage, but he was already dealing with an unresolved image rights dispute with his former agents, which delayed the Ligue 1 champions' transfer proceedings. While PSG decided to wait, this delay opened up the opportunity for Real Madrid to go for the Côte d'Ivoire star.
The two-time European conquerors are unhappy with Diomande's agents, who changed their position after giving the green light to the club's negotiations with RB Leipzig. Die Roten Bullen are rumoured to be asking for a transfer deal worth 120 million euros, including bonuses, and Les Parisiens consider this to be an unrealistic demand as the player has yet to prove himself on the big stage.
In the last few hours, Real Madrid have proceeded largely unchallenged by PSG and are leading negotiations with Leipzig. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Los Blancos have a 'Here We Go' on the Diomande transfer deal, following an agreement on fees. They will be paying over 100 million euros, and medicals are scheduled this week in Madrid.
Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique slowed down talks with the Bundesliga side when their asking price went well above what the Parisians were ready to pay. The price inflated further when Real Madrid started showing interest, prompting the Parc des Princes dwellers to invest that money elsewhere, where it would suit them best.
Meanwhile, Les Rouge-et-Bleu are preparing to counter the 15-time European champions in the Rodri saga, as covered in an earlier report on Roundtable. The Jose Mourinho-led club has an agreement in place with the 2026 World Cup and Golden Ball winner, but Enrique has asked sporting director Luis Campos to begin proceedings for the Spaniard's signing.
Rodri has expressed a desire to join Real Madrid; however, PSG are ready to go all in after saving the financial resources from the Diomande withdrawal. Enrique is expected to lead negotiations by personally contacting his fellow countryman to get an approval before meeting Mah City's demands.
PSG are working to get the most out of Bradley Barcola's departure this summer. The Frenchman has decided against renewing his contract with his current club, and is hoping for a transfer to the Premier League.
