Ferran Torres leads Ligue 1 scoring, and Fabian Ruiz tops assists after PSG draw. Pair to wear badges at Lille.
While PSG did not win at Rennes on Sunday night, they still brought back a point after trailing 2-0, and they will travel to Lille this Friday night with Ligue 1's top scorer and top assist provider.
PSG was held to a draw by Rennes on Sunday night at Roazhon Park (2-2) but earned credit for coming back from a poor start, thanks to a brace from its new signing, Ferran Torres, with both goals set up by his compatriot, Fabian Ruiz.
Thanks to his brace scored in 45 minutes and without a penalty, Ferran Torres leads the Ligue 1 scoring chart (the famous Top Scorer trophy), tied on goals with Amine Gouiri and Florian Thauvin, but ahead of them thanks to the LFP criteria that separate players who have scored the same number of goals.
In case of a tie, scorers are separated in the following manner:
- The one who has scored the fewest penalties
- The one who has provided the most assists
- The one who has scored his goals over the greatest number of matches
- The one who has played the fewest minutes to score his goals
- The one belonging to the team that has scored the most points
- The one who has received the fewest red cards
- The one who has received the fewest yellow cards
Ferran Torres scored both his goals in open play and is therefore ahead of Florian Thauvin, who scored 2 penalties in Lens' 5-2 win over Auxerre on Saturday, and Amine Gouiri, who scored a penalty in Marseille's 4-0 win over Strasbourg on Friday night. The Spanish world champion will therefore be the first holder of the Top Scorer badge of the Ligue 1 season, which he will wear as soon as this Friday night at Lille in the 2nd matchday.
Torres, however, will not be the only "badged" Parisian at Pierre-Mauroy, since his compatriot Fabian Ruiz will wear the Top Passer badge after his two assists at Rennes. PSG's Spanish midfielder is the only player with two assists at the end of Ligue 1's 1st matchday.
Elsewhere, when asked on Saturday about the reversal of the PSG-Rennes match to Rennes-PSG, Luis Enrique assured that it changed nothing about his approach to the game.
“For us, it changes nothing in our preparation because we prepare every match the same way. Whether it’s at home or away, we aim to be as competitive as possible. It’s true that it’s different, and you have to adapt,” Enrique said.
