Ferran Torres scores a brace on his PSG debut and enters club history. Only Patrick Mboma and Zlatan Ibrahimovic had done it before.
After scoring a brace in his first appearance in the PSG jersey, Ferran Torres allowed his new team to bring back a point from Rennes on Sunday evening. On a personal level, the Spanish world champion became the third player in PSG history to make his debut with a brace.
Called up for the first time by Luis Enrique with PSG, Torres, 26, began his Parisian adventure on the bench at Roazhon Park on Sunday evening against Rennes before taking advantage of the very poor first half of his rival Ousmane Dembele to be thrown into the deep end upon his return from the locker room.
And the Spanish world champion, who had scored the only goal of the last 2026 World Cup final, made a notable and remarkable entrance by scoring a brace (71st, 82nd) on two assists from Fabian Ruiz to allow PSG to come back to 2-2 against a Rennes side that led 2-0 at halftime.
“I’m very happy, very glad,” Torres said into our microphone in the mixed zone after Rennes-PSG (2-2). “I really wanted to finally be able to make my debut with Paris Saint-Germain and also to be able to see the supporters in the stands cheering us on. It’s something very important for us.”
By scoring a brace in his PSG debut, Torres entered the club’s history by becoming only the third player to achieve this feat. Before him, Patrick Mboma in 1994 (against the Hungarians of Vac FC in Champions League qualifying) and a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2012 (against Lorient in Ligue 1) had scored a brace in their Parisian debuts, but the Cameroonian and the Swede were both starters. Ibrahimovic was also the last Parisian to score a brace on the opening matchday of Ligue 1, during the 2014/15 season against Reims.
The last Parisian to score a brace in Ligue 1 after coming on as a substitute was, until Sunday evening, Ousmane Dembele, against Rennes during the 2024-2025 season. Across all competitions, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had also treated himself to a brace after coming off the bench against Chelsea in the Champions League last season.
In other news, PSG sporting director Luis Campos said that the Parisian side's transfer window is not over. The Portuguese confirmed the club could still sign players before Sept. 1.
“My assessment of the transfer window? The window is not over. (...) I remind you of what happened, for example, last year with Gigio Donnarumma (who left for Manchester City on Sept. 2); it was really late,” Campos said.
