Luis Enrique reacts to PSG's 4-2 Champions League win over FC Barcelona, admitting that calling them the best would be cheating.
Paris Saint-Germain once again broke its opponent's unbeaten streak, in this case, FC Barcelona's, with a 4-2 Champions League win at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.
The match was intense for both teams, especially for PSG, which had to take three key players off the field due to injuries sustained in the match.
Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Marquinhos had to leave the match, likely due to overexertion from playing at a very demanding pace.
However, the substitute squad carried the remaining team forward and secured the win despite the pressure Barcelona continued to apply even in the final minutes of the match.
The Parisian team's coach, Luis Enrique, spoke about the feelings that remained after the match. The Spaniard, though happy about the win, acknowledged that it would be wrong to think they were the best.
"No. That would be cheating. If we think we are the best or special. Today we did a good defensive job. We were superior in winning the ball back in the opponent's half in the first half, and that is thanks to our forwards," Luis Enrique assured.
The 56-year-old coach admitted that the match was quite complicated because of FC Barcelona's high level of play; you only realize how good they are once you face them.
He also acknowledged the good recovery his team made after minutes of high pressure from the Spanish side.
"To be able to win matches and important titles against rivals at the same level as you, you have to know how to adapt to game situations. We had to play a low block for 15 minutes, but we know how to make transitions."
Luis Enrique admires the opponent's individual and collective quality, and he doesn't let the result carry him away. He admits that Barcelona was much better in the second half, but luckily PSG adapted quickly.
Lastly, he thanked several of his players, especially Lucas Hernandez, who scored a header in the 72nd minute and kept Barcelona's young star, Lamine Yamal, at bay.
"I am a Cule. I am a professional and I enjoy my team's wins," Luis Enrique concluded.
Unfortunately, we now have to wait to see how serious the three PSG players' injuries are, with rumors that Kvaratskhelia's is the most serious, as he could miss the entire season if it proves as severe as social media is already saying.
