PSG’s “loft” - in reality a handful of players who don’t figure in Luis Enrique’s plans and who train with the club’s reserve (Espoirs) team - is on the verge of being completely emptied. After Randal Kolo Muani was transferred permanently to Juventus and Naoufel El Hannach was loaned back to Montpellier (Ligue 2), young right-back or right midfielder Yoram Zague is now preparing to leave.
According to Le Parisien, he will be loaned to Pafos in Cyprus with a purchase option. There, he would reunite with David Luiz, among others, but he could return to Paris in a year, as he is under contract through June 2028.
Like many other players who have turned professional, Yoram Zague came out of the highly regarded 2006 generation of the club’s academy, two members of which are now full-fledged first-team players: Warren Zaïre-Emery and Senny Mayulu.
Among the best of that 2006 crop, Ethan Mbappé ultimately signed his first pro contract at Lille, collateral damage from the conflict between his older brother and PSG. Zague did sign a pro contract at Paris but failed to establish himself there, despite several chances offered by Luis Enrique.
On the PSG surplus-squad front, the only known name still on the list is Renato Sanches. A year from the end of his contract, and returning from a loan spell in Greece once again spoiled by injuries, the Portuguese midfielder, now 29, has not appeared in any transfer rumours for weeks. Will PSG and he negotiate a contract termination? It’s a possibility.
Meanwhile, after a final late-morning training session at the Campus PSG, the club travels to Rennes on Sunday to launch its Ligue 1 campaign, with a few absences expected.
Paris Saint-Germain held a late-morning session at their Poissy training centre. Under the sun, but not in crushing heat, 26 players were at Luis Enrique’s disposal.
It is certainly rare for so many PSG players to be at training. But this Saturday, there were no absences to note, and the summer signings were indeed there. Mika Godts, the latest to be made official, was spotted during the first 15 minutes of the open session with the media.
Luis Enrique could also count on his wingers Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Reportedly on their way out to Liverpool, the two PSG players took part in the warm-up rondo and, apparently, the full session.
