Real Madrid and German national team legend, Toni Kroos, has backed a PSG star to win this year's Ballon D'or award, but perhaps not who you would have expected.
It's safe to say it was another absolutely incredible season for PSG.
Although the treble was not quite defended, after a shock Coupe de France defeat at home to next door neighbours Paris FC, Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League were both successfully defended by the team.
There were a lot of star performers that helped the team over the line in the Champions League specifically. You had Ousmane Dembele keeping his cool from the spot in the final, as well as scoring against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, as well as the performances of Nuno Mendes and Fabian Ruiz that night. There were the excellent performances from Joao Neves in the middle of the park, and the calmness of Willian Pacho at the back.
However, it is another PSG player that Real Madrid and Germany legend, Toni Kroos, has backed to win this year's Ballon D'or award in London towards the end of October. Indeed so, as the 36-year old has tipped Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to win the award over any other PSG player, as well as other names such as Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal.
When speaking to German broadcaster Florian Malburg, Kroos said: "The Ballon D'or should go to Khvicha Kvarstskhelia. He probably won't win but he's number one without hesitation.
The best World Cup players: Messi, Jude, Mbappe, Rodri - had average club seasons. Kvara was the best player from currently the best club in the world."
Nice to see the Georgian winger get some love from outside of the PSG world. And it is a shame for him that Georgia could not qualify for the FIFA World Cup, where he could have showcased his talents to the whole world.
However, he did score eight goals in the league, and, through no fault of his own, missed the World Cup. Ultimately, there is an award for the Champions League player of the year. The Ballon D'or is an award that covers all competitions, so for that reason, Kvaratskhelia winning the award feels a bit of a stretch. He has probably done enough to be in the top 10, however.
It will be interesting to see if Dembele retains the award, and become the first person since Lionel Messi to do so. Although France did not win the World Cup, he had an excellent tournament. For my money it should be Harry Kane, but let's see.
