Liverpool have cooled their pursuit of PSG’s teenage sensation Ibrahim Mbaye despite a rumoured blockbuster bid, as negotiations stall and conflicting reports emerge regarding a potential Merseyside move.
A previous update by TeamTalk on TransferFeed stated that Liverpool executives had already arrived in Paris in a bid to close a deal to ensure the transfer of Mbaye to Merseyside. It was also stated that the English club had reportedly offered Paris Saint-Germain a sum of £155 million for the combined transfer of Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Luis Enrique has been avoiding playing the teenager as he wishes to be sure of his future destination before integrating him into his plans for the season.
This report by Simon Jones refuted an earlier one by RMC Sport, which had claimed that the 18-year-old had reached an agreement with Liverpool on a five-year deal.
Born to parents of Senegalese descent in Trappes, France, Mbaye graduated from the academy of Paris Saint-Germain in 2025. He made his debut for the senior team a year earlier and has since appeared in 33 official Ligue 1 fixtures for Le Rouge-et-Bleu, netting 4 goals. He has been a part of PSG squads that have been the champions of Ligue 1 in 2024-25 and 2025-26, the Coupe de France in 2024-25, the UEFA Champions League in 2024-25 and 2025-26, the UEFA Super Cup in 2025 and 2026, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in 2025.
In addition to his club career, Mbaye has been a part of the senior squad of the Senegal National Football Team, after playing youth football from the U16 level to the U20 level for France. For the Lions de la Téranga, the teenager has made 15 appearances and scored 4 goals. He was part of the Senegal squad that was controversially awarded the runners-up position in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
It remains to be seen what will be the ultimate destination of Mbaye, but, as things stand, an exit from PSG looks inevitable.
