The PSG man is set to be cut from his nation's 26 man squad for this summer's FIFA World Cup in North America, according to reports on Thursday
Although the season is still ongoing for PSG, we are now just 38 days removed from the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup taking place, when Mexico face South Africa in Mexico City at 21:00 CET.
Excitement and anticipation is beginning to rise, and with squads already beginning to be announced - the likes of Switzerland and New Zealand confirming their squads today - that excitement is only growing.
One more nation that will announce their squad today are France, with manager Deschamps set to announce the squad at 20:00 CET. Nations have until the 30th of May to officially confirm their 26 man squads, but in truth, most managers will know by now, including the Les Blues head coach.
There are a number of PSG players expected to make the squad. The likes of Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaire-Emery and Ousmane Dembele, to name but a few. Many expect the team to be built around a core of PSG stars, given the recent success of the team.
One player from Luis Enrique's side who looks like he won't be going to the World Cup, however, is goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. Indeed not, as Le Parisien's PSG site are reporting that the goalkeeper has not made the cut for the final 26 man squad.
Last summer, when PSG signed Chevalier from fellow Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille, a lot of fans were very excited. Although Gianluigi Donnarumma had been a great servant, many saw this signing as change to a more modern, progressive goalkeeper.
However, it has been nothing short of a disaster so far. Even on his debut, in the UEFA Super Cup against Spurs, there were some red flags for both of the goals conceded. He did redeem himself with a save in the shootout, but it clearly wasn't the necessary springboard for him.
Since the end of January, the 24-year old has not played a single game. He was an unused substitute 19 times in a row, before picking up a thigh injury in training, with his last squad appearance being the first leg against Bayern on the 29th of April.
In the meantime, Matvey Safonov has deputised very well, and is now the clear, established number one. He produced another excellent performance in the title clinching victory over Lens in midweek.
As for Chevalier, he had enough credit in the bank to be called up for France's March friendlies against Brazil and Colombia - where he was an unused sub on both occasions, despite Deschamps testing two keepers - but that credit seems to have ran out for the World Cup. Tough to take.
