A player who has been heavily linked with PSG in recent days has been left out of his current club's match day squad, perhaps suggesting a move is close.

We are just 10 days removed from PSG beginning their 26/27 season against Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup taking place in Salzburg, Austria, where they will come up against their former manager, Unai Emery. Ironically, Lucas Digne could make his second debut for the club just days after signing from Villa.

Nevertheless, as we aggregated earlier on this week, manager Luis Enrique is not happy with the lack of incoming business done so far this summer, as he wants to know his full squad before the season kicks off.

So, there is now a bit of pressure for the club to get deals done before that opener against Villa on the 12th. Though that game is perhaps not as consequential as others, it is still a trophy up for grabs, and it is the principle of building your squad before the season that is clearly important.

Well, there is perhaps some good news for Enrique on that front. Indeed so, as Mika Godts, who has been heavily linked with a move to PSG in recent days as the replacement for the likely to depart Bradley Barcola, has been left out of current club AFC Ajax's match day squad for their friendly with FC Voldendam on Sunday afternoon (the 2nd of August 2026).

This is the biggest hint yet that a deal could be very close to happening. Often you will see a linked player continue to play for his club in the meantime, with the usual cliches from the manager along the lines of "Well he's currently our player, and whilst he is we will continue to play him" and so on and so forth. But, that is not the case in this instance, which can only be a good thing for PSG.

Let's hope this one can be wrapped up in the coming days, so he has a few days to train with his team mates ahead of the aforementioned clash with Villa. The game may come too soon for those that were involved in the latter stages of the World Cup (like Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue), so there could be a chance to play for Godts.

That said, one of the players who will be fully ready to go is Khvicha Kvartskhelia, who did not participate at the World Cup, and he does play in Godts' position, but perhaps one could play on the other side for this game and we can get a glimpse and what that may look like ahead of the season.
