According to recent reports from the French media, PSG are planning to offer winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia a new and improved contract, despite the ACL rupture he suffered against Barcelona.
Earlier on this week, the tragic news that PSG forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suffered an ACL rupture in the UEFA Champions League win over Barcelona was confirmed by the club.
This injury will keep him out for the remainder of the 26/27 season, and perhaps, if unfortunate, some of next season too. In any case, there is a possibility that he would miss at least a decent chunk of pre-season, and will be playing catch up fitness wise.
So, there is the worry that the Georgian international will not come back as the same player he was before. We know how often injuries can ruin a player, even if sports medicine and science is more developed than ever before.
Despite that, PSG want to give Kvaratskhelia a new contract until the summer of 2032, as per French journalist Fabrice Hawkins. He reports that discussions have already begun. Whilst PSG want to stick to the wage structure they have set for themselves, the leaders at the club want to make him "one of the highest" paid players on the team.
At the moment, the winger has a contract that runs until the summer of 2029, so from when he returns, he would be into the final two years of his deal. Whilst it is important PSG don't become a sentimental club, it would be a very nice gesture of support to give him this new deal whilst he is out with a long term injury.
You'd then hope that, further down the line - if he is able to return to his brilliant best - he would then repay that faith if the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona were ever to come knocking for him.
One thing to take into consideration is the mental side of an injury like this. In a few months time, let's say the new year, Kvaratskhelia will be feeling much, much better physically. However, it will still be very tough mentally - watching the big games wishing he was out there with his team mates, contributing to great nights under the lights and so on.
Therefore, the level of support that a new contract would show could help him mentally get through what is no doubt going to be the toughest period of his career. So, in that case, absolutely all for this, even if it does see like a bit of a risk from the club's point of view.
