After his exceptional display in the resounding, statement victory away to Villarreal, PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz has been named in UEFA's official Champions League Team of the Week for match day four.
On Tuesday evening, PSG sent out a huge statement to the rest of Europe, with an absolutely resounding 6-0 win away to Villarreal on match day four of the UEFA Champions League season, making it four wins from four, as the team make sure the play-offs won’t be required this rime around.
After just 17 minutes of the encounter, it was already 4-0, thanks to goals from Joao Neves, Desire Doue, Senny Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz in a quite simple incredible eight minute spell. Another strike from Ruiz and a first ever PSG goal for 16 year old David Boly followed in the second half.
Although several players had outstanding performances on the night, perhaps the pick of the bunch was Ruiz. As touched on, he scored twice, doing so from two strikers worth just a combined 0.43. But it was not just that. The 30-year old had 128 touches of the ball, completed 8/9 long balls, won 3/4 ground duels, and completed 98 passes. An all round incredible display.
As a result of this showing, the Spaniard has been recognised by UEFA with a place in their official Champions League Team of the Week for match day four of this season’s league phase.
The full team is as follows; Sommer (Club Brugge); Jorgensen (LASK), Bisseck (Inter Milan), Gabriel (Arsenal), Brown (Fenerbahce); Fernandez (Manchester City), Ruiz, Veiga (FC Porto); Batranov (Galatasaray); Botheim (Viking), Douvikas (Como). The formation is a 4312.
There were a number of other PSG players who may feel like they deserved a place in the Team of the Week - such as Doue and Neves, but there were some strong performances across the board from various different players for various different sides on both Tuesday and Wednesday. So, listen, fair play.
Although, quite simply everyone played well on the night, most Parisians would agree that if you had to pick one stand out performer from Luis Enrique's side, it would indeed be Ruiz, who once again is showing just how underrated a player he is, and what a key cog in this side he continues to be moving forward.
So, all in all, a very well deserved inclusion. Let's hope for a similar performance against Troyes in Ligue 1 this weekend to sign off for the final international break of 2026, where he will be looking to continue his unbeaten record with the Spain national team in their UEFA Nations League clashes with Czechia and England.
