With a number of PSG players representing their respective nations on Friday evening, here is your detailed recap of how things went for each and every player that happened to be in action.
On Friday evening, right in the thick of this extended international break, there was action for a number of PSG stars. Let’s take a look at how they got on, individually and collectively.
It would be amiss not to start with the French mafia, with France hosting Italy for Zinedine Zidane’s first home game in charge, in the UEFA Nations League. For this one, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue were both named in the starting XI, whilst Maghnes Akliouche was named amongst the substitutes.
In the absence of former PSG forward, Kylian Mbappe, Dembele was named the captain by Zidane.
With the score still 0-0, the Ballon d'Or holder missed Les Blues’ first real presentable opportunity of the game, with his right footed shot from 7-8 yards out saved by former PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Five minutes later, France would take the lead, though the Italians equalised half way through the second half. That is how it would finish, with a 1-1 draw and the spoils shared in Paris. Dembele played the full 90, Doue played 76 minutes, whilst Akliouche remained an unused sub.
Still, a positive campaign to date, with seven points from their opening three games, sitting top of the group. They will face Belgium, currently one point behind them, in their final game of this break on Monday at 20:45 CEST.
Elsewhere, Ilya Zabarnyi was back in the starting XI for Ukraine, as they faced Northern Ireland in Slovakia in the UEFA Nations League.
It proved to be a very difficult day all round, as Northern Ireland ran out X winners, leaving Ukraine in place in the group, with four points from their three games so far.
For their final game of this break, they will face Hungary on Monday at 20:45 CEST.
In the same group, there was action for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georgia, as they took on Hungary away from home in Budapest. For a third straight game this break, the PSG forward was named in the starting XI, again as the skipper of the side.
However, it proved to be yet another difficult outing for the Georgians, who were defeated 1-0 and now have just one point from their first three games in the Nations League.
For their fourth and final game of this break, Kvaratskhelia’s side will face Northern Ireland on Monday night for a 20:45 CEST kick off. Already feels like a must win game at this stage.
To finish off the Friday recap of the international break, a reminder that forward Ferran Torres withdrew from Spain duty earlier on in the day. You can read more about that here.
