PSG lose 1-2 at home to Monaco and extend winless run to four matches. Luis Enrique's side faces questions before the Champions League.

PSG was beaten by AS Monaco on Friday night (1-2), extending its winless run to four consecutive matches. This laborious start to the season for the Parisians is on the verge of becoming worrying ahead of the Champions League return this Wednesday against Slovan Bratislava.

PSG was perhaps hoping to return to the Parc des Princes and its supporters to win its first Ligue 1 match of the season. But after draws with Rennes (2-2) and Lille (2-2), the French capital club shared points with its opponents. Dominant in the first half but sluggish in the second, Luis Enrique's players marked their big return to the Parc des Princes with a defeat against a Monaco that is, more than ever, the leader of Ligue 1 (1-2).

It is rare that, in September, PSG does not yet have a Ligue 1 victory. This start to the 2026/27 season had been marked by two trips to Rennes and Lille, both of which ended the same way (2-2 after trailing 2-0). Paris was therefore looking for its first league win before kickoff, having also lost in the Trophee des Champions in mid-August at Lens (1-0, on Aug. 16).

This evening, for its return to the Parc des Princes after nearly four months of waiting, Paris experienced a different scenario and an even more disappointing result. It was beaten at home (1-2). Marquinhos' shoulder had nevertheless allowed the Red and Blue to open the scoring and take the lead for the first time since the European Super Cup (2-1, Aug. 12). And while it was dominating its opponent without difficulty, PSG seemed to be holding onto its first victory. But that was without counting on this unrecognisable second half.

Physically short, Vitinha and his teammates played the second half at a false rhythm, benefiting Nazinho (58'), alone at the far post, to equalise, and Idumbo (72') to surprise Paris. The introductions of Ousmane Dembele, Ferran Torres and Mika Godts did not change anything. Before the return of the Champions League on Wednesday, Paris had gone four matches without a win. Including two defeats in that stretch.

How to explain PSG's inconsistency in this match? Dominant and comfortable in the first half, the two-time defending European champion faded after the break. The situation is all the more surprising after Paris showed its ability to respond well in the two previous matchdays, coming back to level at Rennes and Lille. In the numbers as in the visual impression, it was undeniable that Paris Saint-Germain was superior at halftime: 11 shots to 1, possession in favour of PSG, a high block. Then, the other face.

The one that will need to be quickly erased. In the second half, Paris clearly dropped in intensity, despite the five changes made by Luis Enrique and the return of Ousmane Dembele. Caught out by a fortunate Monaco side, the Parisians saw the assistant referee raise his flag on Ferran Torres' 2-2 goal in the 85th minute. No miracle scenario this time. Rather, reflections that are slowly turning into doubts.

So important last season, Matvey Safonov is starting this new campaign with less assurance. This Friday, he was once again not free from blame. On Monaco's second goal, scored by Idumbo, the Russian goalkeeper was caught at his near post. An error with heavy consequences that will displease Luis Enrique, especially since the Spaniard had spared him recently.
