Lucas Chevalier will reportedly be out 2-3 weeks with a thigh injury, but will be fully recovered for the World Cup. PSG goalkeeper avoids long absence.
After a right thigh injury scare, Lucas Chevalier feared he would have to rule himself out of the World Cup. The PSG goalkeeper will, in fact, quickly recover.
Now PSG's backup goalkeeper, Chevalier, 24, injured himself on Wednesday morning at his club's training session. A long absence was feared, which would have led to missing the World Cup. That will not be the case, according to a source close to the locker room speaking to AFP, which reported an absence of "two to three weeks."
The PSG goalkeeper has a right thigh injury, but it is not serious. In other words, the former Lille goalkeeper's season is not completely over, even if his chances of playing again with PSG are slim, given the correct performances of his competitor, Matvey Safonov.
But Chevalier will, in any case, be fully recovered for the World Cup if Didier Deschamps decides to call him as the third goalkeeper, as has been the trend since the March national team gathering.
Recently, due to the lack of a reliable and successful goalkeeper behind Mike Maignan this season, Brice Samba was promoted to No. 2, even though the Rennes goalkeeper is not always dominant.
The No. 3 position remains to be assigned, knowing that the goalkeepers mentioned during the winter, like Jean Butez or Robin Risser, have been slightly less impressive. The name of Hugo Lloris has also been mentioned as a way to bring him out of international retirement to help the French national team compete in the World Cup with top-level goalkeepers.
Chevalier will miss PSG's final Ligue 1 matches. The former Lille player could have aimed to start against Lorient on Saturday. The match will take place between the two clashes against Bayern, thus giving Safonov a rest.
