Key players for both PSG and Toulouse are sidelined or uncertain to play in Friday's Ligue 1 match.

Two days before the PSG-Toulouse match this Friday evening at 8:45 p.m., at least five absentees are already confirmed for this Ligue 1 Matchday 28 fixture. But between physical setbacks and late returns from international duty, numerous other players remain uncertain. Here is the situation two days out.

PSG is finally back, and before taking on Liverpool in the Champions League, it will need to beat Toulouse on Friday evening in the opening match of Ligue 1's Matchday 28 to stay at the top of the standings at the end of the round. Luis Enrique had virtually no players at the Campus during the international break and will definitely be without at least two players against Toulouse.

Having undergone surgery on his right hamstring in February, Quentin Ndjantou is still in rehabilitation and will not return anytime soon. Bradley Barcola, who suffered a severe right ankle sprain against Chelsea on March 17, faces at least three weeks of unavailability -- possibly four -- making this match against Toulouse too soon for his return. The medical update expected on Thursday may shed more light on his situation.

While PSG has no suspended players for the Toulouse match, Luis Enrique has at least two injury doubts: Senny Mayulu and Fabian Ruiz. Mayulu suffered a right calf injury against Nice and was unable to honor his call-up with the France under-21 team during the break, but he has already resumed ball work early this week. He therefore has a real chance of returning as early as Friday evening.

The Spanish midfielder has been out since Jan. 20, when he took a knock to his left knee against Sporting CP, but has also resumed ball work early this week. Thursday evening, L'Equipe reported that Fabian Ruiz is in the final phase of his return protocol and that there is a real possibility he could be included in the squad for PSG-Toulouse. The goal is to gradually reintegrate him into competition, but a return is genuinely on the table.

Several PSG Internationals Could Be Rested Against Toulouse?

The French internationals called up by Didier Deschamps returned to training Wednesday -- apparently indoors -- after playing two matches in the United States last Thursday and Sunday. Of the five French internationals who returned to the PSG Campus on Wednesday, Ousmane Dembele does not appear in any of the footage released by the club, which may or may not be significant. He did come off slightly injured during France's first match and did not participate in the second, so caution is warranted.

The Portuguese players, plus Marquinhos, will only return on Thursday after playing in the United States in the early hours of Wednesday morning. There is little chance of seeing the Brazilian center back -- who played 90 minutes against Croatia last night -- start against Toulouse, while Joao Neves, who was managed carefully by Portugal in their second match after being rested at Nice before the break, could also be given a breather. Having played over an hour not long ago, Goncalo Ramos will also find it difficult to start this PSG-Toulouse match.

Numerous other PSG internationals played Tuesday evening in Europe, including Achraf Hakimi with Morocco and Willian Pacho with Ecuador, and it remains to be seen when they will return to training and whether they will be able to feature as early as Friday. In any case, Luis Enrique will take no risks and will rotate on Friday against Toulouse. The Spaniard is expected to use this match to start Lucas Beraldo, who was not called up by Brazil during this international break.

Toulouse Has One Suspended Player, Two Injured and Several Doubts

On Toulouse's side -- currently ninth in Ligue 1 -- one player is suspended for this trip to the Parc des Princes: Argentine winger Santiago Hidalgo. He received his fifth yellow card of the season against Lorient on March 21 and will not be able to face the Paris leaders on Friday. Toulouse also has two injured players: English center back Charlie Cresswell, out with a hamstring injury, and Ghanaian midfielder Abu Francis, in recovery after a double tibia-fibula fracture last November.

As reported by the specialist website LesViolets.com, previously injured players Dayann Methalie, Frank Magri, and Rafik Messali have returned to training and could return to the squad on Friday against PSG. Toulouse also had several players involved in the international break, and while several have already returned -- including Cristian Casseres, Guillaume Restes and Mario Sauer -- two others will not be back until Thursday: American center back Mark McKenzie, who played one minute against Portugal last night in Atlanta, and Canadian center forward Jacen Russell-Rowe, who played 15 minutes against Tunisia last night in Toronto.

PSG-Toulouse Absentees Two Before the Match:

  • Injured (4): Ndjantou, Barcola, Cresswell, Francis.
  • Suspended (1): Hidalgo.
  • Doubtful (9): Mayulu, Ruiz, Marquinhos, Neves, McKenzie, Russell-Rowe, Methalie, Magri, Messali.
