Three young PSG superstars have been recognised for their exceptional displays with nominations for the Ligue 1 25/26 young player of the year award
Although the Ligue 1 season has not been as smooth as last season - which saw the title wrapped up in early April - it has still been a strong campaign from PSG who look set to win the title for the fifth year in a row.
With a lot of players missing games through injury this season, the fit and available players have had to step up and be counted for to try and fend off the challenge from the impressive Lens.
Three players that have had particularly good seasons include Joao Neves, Warren Zaire-Emery and Desire Doue. So much so, that they have been recognised by Ligue 1 with nominations for the Young Player of the Year award.
The PSG trio have been nominated for the award alongside Valentin Barco of RC Strasbourg and Ayyoub Bouaddi of Lille, with the winner set to be announced in due course. So, let's analyse each player's performances this season.
As it stands, Neves has played 17 games in Ligue 1 this season, starting 12 of those. In that time, he has found the back of the net five times, provided an assist, and created three big chances. His five goals come from a total xG of just 2.45
Meanwhile, Zaire-Emery has played in all 30 Ligue 1 games, starting 26 of those. He has scored two goals, provided a further four assists, and created eight big chances. He has often filled in for Achraf Hakimi at right-back, and may well have to do so again against Bayern Munich next week, after the Moroccan picked up an injury.
Last but certainly not least, Doue has featured in 20 games, with 14 of those being from the start. He has scored six times, provided two assists, and created five big chances in that time.
Overall, the deserving winner - at least from the PSG players - feels like Zaire-Emery. The fact he has played in every single game, with all but four of those being starts, and filled in both at right-back as well as his nominal midfield position, all whilst consistently playing well, sets him apart from the other two, in my opinion.
All three are great players, as are the other two nominees, but the 20-year old's consistency and maturity well, well beyond his years never fails to amaze. It would be great to see that recognised with this award. Let's see.
