Florentino Perez promised a $164M star signing for Real Madrid, sparking speculation about a PSG transfer. Vitinha and Joao Neves have made it clear they are staying in Paris.
Florentino Perez heated up the transfer window on Thursday night by stating that he would sign a star for $164 million. According to some reports, the Real Madrid president is targeting a PSG player, but on the Paris side, they seem amused by it.
Pushed by his opponent in the race for the Real Madrid presidency, who had promised to sign Erling Haaland without the Norwegian player's agreement, Perez went to the same ground.
On Thursday, the current Merengue boss escalated matters by promising to sign a star for $164 million, which would be the biggest transfer in Real Madrid's history.
Given Perez's profile, everyone thought of Vitinha and Joao Neves, the two Portuguese prodigies at PSG. Two years after coming to PSG to get Kylian Mbappe for free, the Spanish executive wants to do his transfer business at PSG, even if it will cost him a fortune this time. However, the day after Perez's comments, the bubble already seems to be deflating.
First, Abdellah Boulma, a journalist always very well informed about PSG, dismissed the idea of a Parisian player leaving for Real Madrid this summer. For him, Perez has simply fallen into electoralism.
"Elections have this wonderful gift of turning some people into machines of foolishness..." said the cited journalist. A few minutes earlier, Djamel, PSG's most reliable insider, put an end to the speculation about the Real Madrid president's dreams.
"Neither Joao Neves nor Vitinha will leave PSG this summer. Take it easy, guys, let the media talk," he said, to reassure Parisian supporters. And if that was not enough, one only needed to look at the players' social media accounts for clues about their future.
Thus, Joao Neves' fiancée immediately reposted the video of her playing drums with the PSG ultras, while her partner posted a photo on his Instagram story of himself wearing a PSG jersey and scarf, calmly watching television.
For his part, Vitinha made it clear that he wants to win a third star for PSG, dismissing the idea of leaving Paris for Real Madrid or elsewhere.
It seems complicated to leave a two-time European champion team with a stable project that remains ambitious despite having already won everything, for a completely unstable project, without squad balance, and with controversies both on and off the field.
The only reason a PSG player might think about leaving could be the ambition to go and win everything at another club, as they have already done in Paris. But for now, that does not seem to be the plan for either Vitinha or Neves.
