It does not feel far-fetched to say that Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes are two of the most popular Manchester United players, both from the current squad and over the last five or so years.
The body of work from Fernandes since joining United in the winter of 2020 speaks for itself, whilst Diallo is seen as the future of the club - someone with a number of good performances since returning from his fruitful loan spell at Sunderland, despite often being played as a right wing back under former manager Ruben Amorim.
When speaking to the media recently, the Ivory Coast international had plenty of good things to say about his teammate: "Bruno Fernandes speaks French, speaks Portuguese, speaks Spanish, speaks English. So he's the main man who can talk to everyone."
Very interesting comments. The 31-year-old will speak his native Portuguese and English, having been here for so long. You can even understand him speaking Spanish, since it is quite similar to Portuguese.
However, Fernandes's ability to speak French just goes to show how intelligent he is. He has never played in France during his career, so he has had no tangible reason to learn it. Perhaps he did so at school and did well in his exams. However, he learned French; it is incredibly impressive that he can speak it.
Elsewhere in his interview, Diallo also had some insight into when he first joined the club, back in 2020: "I remember my first day, I was parking, and then I saw Juan Mata. He was doing the COVID test at that time. So I was like, 'Oh, this is Juan Mata...'
I was like, 'I can't believe it!' but yeah, once I went to the dressing room and I saw players like Paul Pogba, big players, Eric Bailly, I was like 'I can't believe it'.
I'm playing for Manchester United now, so I have to give everything I've got. I have to do my best for the club because I now play for a big club."
Sort of crazy to think that the 23-year-old has been at the club long enough to have shared a dressing room with the likes of Mata, Pogba, and Bailly. They feel like completely different eras at United. Well, let's all hope that Diallo can help shape the new era at Old Trafford.
