The former Manchester United player could leave his current club this summer and the Reds would recieve a significant amount of the profits.

Over the past few transfer windows, Manchester United has seemingly failed to generate significant revenue from player transfers, and last year's summer window stands as testament to that.

United brought in Bryan Mbuemo, Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon for a total of around £200 million but only generated a total of around £62 million for the transfers of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony to Chelsea and Real Betis respectively.

Although the loan move of Rasmus Hojlund looks destined to generate United another £44 million at the end of this season when Napoli would make the move permanent as Marcus Rashford's Barcelona future currently hangs in the balance but we also have to keep in mind the cost of the Reds' summer signings for next season after they decide on who their permanent manager would be after this campaign.

But as one of Manchester United's former stars moves in the summer of 2026, it could add significantly to United's revenue, as Marseille's top performer, Mason Greenwood, could be on the move at the end of this season.

As reported by the Telegraph previously, Manchester Evening News recently pointed out in a recent article that Man United had cleverly put in a sell-on clause in Greenwood's transfer contract which would supposedly fetch United 40-50 percentage of the profits which Marseille make from the prolific forward's sale.

Greenwood has already fetched the Reds £2.5 million, as Marseille qualified for the Champions League, which was also included in his contract when he made the move in 2024.

The current tumultuous situation at the French club is believed to be the reason the 24-year-old could leave following manager De Zerbi's departure after their 5-0 defeat against PSG, which seemingly set off a chain reaction leading to the resignation of Marseille's sporting director, Mehdi Benatia.

There were also reports of a cold battle between Greenwood and Benatia, as the sporting director believed that the former United Man failed to fulfil his commercial obligations last summer, which seemingly frustrated Benatia.

Despite these criticisms thrown at the forward, Greenwood has already netted a total of 18 goals and provided five assists for Marseille this season while playing behind Amine Gouiri and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

As it stands, suitors are already lining up to secure the signature of the highly talented attacker, who is keen to make a move away from the Orange Vélodrome this summer, which would accordingly add to the United treasury.
