Manchester United are looking to turn things around as they prepare for an away game against Burnley tomorrow as interim manager Darren Fletcher hopes to change things for good during his first match in-charge of the Reds.
United could climb up to fourth in the Premier League if Chelsea drop points against Fulham tomorrow, as the Reds are only three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who play on Thursday, but currently both teams have a goal difference of four.
But as mentioned by Fletcher during his presser today, the club is currently focusing only on Burnley and nothing else as the Reds are in dire need of a win tomorrow after their back to back draws against Wolverhampton and Leeds which led to the sacking of Ruben Amorin alongside other internal issues.
We take a look into Fletcher's first press conference as Man United Manager as posted by Sky Sports (h/t The People's Person) :
When asked about his feeling at the moment-
"Surreal," Fletcher replied. "It is an amazing honour to lead a United team. It was not in my wildest dreams. Something I am really proud to do but not in the circumstances I wanted, it doesn’t sit easy with me."
Has INEOS given him any indication of how long he would be in charge?-
"Focus on this game and then speak afterwards," he said. "Focus is on Burnley and then we will speak."
His thoughts on winning the permanent job-
"Honestly it is not what I have thought about. Focusing on Burnley, all the concentration is on that."
Darren was then asked about his staff-
"Travis Binnion is beside me, we have such a close relationship, Alan Wright his assistant will help me, as will Jonny Evans," he confirmed.
Current situation at the club-
"For a game it is to win a match vs Burnley. My focus and energy has been to do the best for United. Help the club, the people I work with, the staff. Everyone expects United to be winning, that’s the standard."
Injury updates-
"Obviously as Ruben mentioned, Mason Mount and Bruno were pushing to play and they have trained and will be back in the squad. But we’ll have to manage their minutes as they’re just coming back."
Jack and Tyler Fletcher's chances of being in the line-up-
"I will not be disclosing team information," he said. "They were in the training group but we will assess a couple of players tomorrow. They are in the periphery but we will have to see."
His vision as Manchester United's Interim manager-
"I hope it resembles a United team who fans can be proud of,” he said. “We have a lot of quality in that team. It is about them, not me."
