Manchester United's inconsistent run of games shows no sign of stopping as the Reds were held against 20th-place Wolverhampton last Tuesday, adding to their woes as Ruben Amorin's men have only picked up three victories during their last 10 outings.
The Reds' lackluster midfield this season is considered the weak link in the side, as they have failed to control games on multiple occasions in which United could have come out victorious but were unable to secure the three points.
Just like the past few seasons, Bruno Fernandes has been the lone star in Man United's midfield this campaign, and his injury at this crucial juncture could be a major blow for the Reds' top-four plans. Fernandes' understudy, Kobbie Mainoo, could also be on the move even with his captain out injured.
Although Mainoo is not the only Manchester United midfielder who could be leaving the club this year, as Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte could also be on the move after failing to make his mark in Old Trafford since coming in from Paris Saint-Germain.
According to Turkish news agency Sozcu (h/t METRO), Galatasaray have made 'significant process' in their efforts of signing Ugarte this January as they proposed a loan move with an option for a permanent transfer in the future but as it seems United have been pushing to make the permanent transfer option mandatory as they look to be ready to let go of their talented midfielder.
The report also suggests that the 24-year-old is also looking for a move away from Manchester, as his fellow Countrymen Fernando Muslera and Lucas Torreira played an important part in Ugarte's decision to join the Turkish giants in the upcoming days.
United paid £50 million during the summer of 2024 as they thought the Uruguayan would be the perfect replacement for an underperforming Casemiro, but it seems Ugarte has failed to outperform his South American colleague till now.
Ugarte started only two games for the Reds this season after the injuries to Bruno and Mainoo recently, as he started against Newcastle and Wolves during their previous two fixtures.
The midfielder's departure in January could pose as a major problem for Amorin if Mainoo fails make an early recovery as the Reds prepare for a January month with five fixtures on the trott with most of their key players set to miss out on a chunk of these upcoming matches.
