Manchester United will supposedly dive into the summer transfer window with a definite intent of strengthening their midfield after a pretty quiet winter, largely due to the departure of former manager Ruben Amorin, which has seemingly diverted the club's plans for now.
The Reds have already set eyes on a few exciting midfielders with the likes of Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba already on United's radar and all of these talented youngsters are valued at around £100 million.
Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali is another player whom the Reds are monitoring closely and the Magpies have also set the asking price around £100 million for the Italian, as both Arsenal and United have shown interest in Tonali.
Rumours of a recent fallout between the player and Newcastle manager Eddie Howe were circulating as Tonali's agent recently cited the Magpies' efforts of blocking a possible move away from the club, but the defensive midfielder's recent message clearly sends a different message.
During Newcastle's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa last weekend, Tonali went on to celebrate his goal with the manager pouring water on the recent fire ignited by the negative rumours.
After the game, the 25-year-old also explained his action, saying (h/t FOTMOB), "I came to Eddie because in the past few weeks, people spoke about our relationship, but I work every day with the gaffer, the gaffer works every day with me, and our relationship is perfect," Tonali insisted. "It’s not broken and I think this is perfect for the team.
"We try to do the best for this team, every game, because we play a lot of games—every three days, we play, and we have to be concentrated every time in the training ground to do the best for our team."
Although this incident is unlikely to change Tonali's decision to leave the club at the end of this season, as they sit tenth in the Premier League table and Champions League qualification for next season looks like a distant dream for Howe's men, which, according to reports, is a major concern for the player.
The Magpies recently extended Tonali's contract until 2029, which definitely gives them an upper hand if negotiations start with either Man United or the Gunners. As a result, Newcastle are expected to make a significant profit even after signing the player for a staggering fee of £55 million in 2023.
Despite Tonali being a more experienced option, United would most likely put Wharton and Anderson as their primary targets for the summer, with their young age and talent likely to play an important role in the club management's decision.
