Manchester United scouts eye a teenage sensation delivering goals and assists. Could this exciting winger be the missing piece in the attacking jigsaw?

It already feels clear that it will be a big summer for Manchester United. Not only does the starting XI need work, but the depth does too.

The current squad size will suffice for one game a week, but next season, with European football of some sort very likely - whether it be Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League – and ideally better runs in the domestic cups, there needs to be better and bigger depth.

Whilst the XI clearly needs a midfielder to replace the outgoing Casemiro, you feel that a top-class right-back to upgrade on the serviceable but inconsistent Diogo Dalot would be pretty useful.

One more position that the team clearly needs is a left winger. Matheus Cunha has been okay there, but he is clearly not a winger. Patrick Dorgu was playing well there before injury, and he won't be out forever, but it still feels like an area that needs addressing.

As mentioned before, depth is important. United can't compete in four competitions with just Dorgu as their left winger. So it is clear that someone in that area needs to be brought in.

Well, maybe we have an idea of who that player might be. Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has reported that United scouts were in attendance at RB Leipzig vs. Augsburg on Saturday to watch Yan Diomande.

This is certainly not the first time the Ivorian winger's name has been linked with the club this season, but for scouts to have gone and watched him play feels the best suggestion yet that there is serious, concrete interest in the player.

The scouts would have been very impressed with what they saw, too. During the game, Diomande completed five successful dribbles, created one big chance, took four shots, and scored a goal. It was his fourth game in a row scoring or assisting in a game.

So far this season, the 19-year-old has scored ten goals, provided five assists, and created nine big chances in 1716 Bundesliga minutes – the total of around 19 full games of action.

He also scored and assisted in the DFB Pokal, scored at AFCON, and scored in World Cup qualifying, helping the Ivory Coast qualify for their first World Cup since the 2014 edition.

In the top five leagues this season, only Luis Diaz and Lamine Yamal have scored more goals than any winger, and the latter is the only player with more successful dribbles per game than Diomande's 3.6.

Interestingly, he has been playing as a right winger for much of this season, but he is more than adept on the left. It is where he played during the AFCON, with Amad Diallo on the right. Those two playing together could help Diomande settle at United, both on and off the pitch.
