Paris Saint-Germain open their Coupe de France title defence after recently winning the FIFA Intercontinental Cup against Flamengo on penalties, thanks to Matvei Safonov's heroics.
Now, Les Parisiens shift their focus to a record 17th French Cup as they gear up for their Round of 64 match against Fontenay at the Stade de la Beaujoire - Louis Fonteneau on Saturday night.
Fontenay reached the Round of 64 with strong performances, conceding just once and scoring nine goals, including a 4-1 win over Chateauroux.
On the other hand, Luis Enrique will have the opportunity to rest his first-team players and give younger teammates a chance to showcase their talents in a crucial knockout game.
The last time PSG lost in the Round of 64 was against Valenciennes in 1990. The Parisians are currently unbeaten in their last 12 Coupe de France games as they look to lift the trophy for a third consecutive time.
Luis Enrique’s men are unbeaten in their last four matches played across all competitions, but will end the year in second place in Ligue 1, a point below Lens
Meanwhile, Fontenay has managed to win three, and lose three of their last six games in all competitions. They would be eager to pull off a major upset in Nantes this weekend.
PSG will be without Achraf Hakimi, who is unavailable due to an ankle injury. Ousmane Dembele, previously sidelined by illness, returned to fitness and featured as a substitute for Desire Doue in the Intercontinental Cup match against Flamengo.
It seems Enrique would like to have a look at what his bench holds while fielding a young squad for the upcoming game.
