Paris Saint-Germain will look to reinforce their defence in the upcoming transfer windows, as captain Marquinhos could well be playing his last season in Paris after reaching 500 games for the Parisians.
The 31-year-old Brazilian had his fair share of injuries this season, recovering just in time for PSG's Intercontinental Cup game against Flamengo from a hip injury.
Despite having the likes of Lucas Beraldo and William Pacho in their squad, PSG would hope to sign a proven player who is ready to replace Marquinhos immediately.
As previously reported by transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, PSG will try to sign French centre back Dayot Upamecano in 2026, who would also fit into their current plan to sign highly rated French players, which they have adopted in recent transfer windows.
Upamecano's current contract with Bayern Munich runs out in 2026, and the 27-year-old has yet to renew his contract with the Bavarian club as both PSG and Real Madrid closely monitoring his situation.
The Frenchman has reportedly decided to shift his current house to the upscale Munich district of Grunwald, where he will become neighbours with his Bayern teammates Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.
A player is unlikely to make the effort of shifting his house within the same city, let alone to a better neighbourhood, unless he is ready to make a long-term commitment to his current club, which looks to be the likely scenario for Upamecano now.
The Frenchman's camp is reportedly trying to upgrade his contract with Bayern to a €16 million base salary and a €65 million release clause. Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, remains optimistic: "We are positive (on Upamecano's contract extension). It is not important whether it happens a day sooner or later. For us, it is important that it happens."
If PSG are unable to sign Upamecano in the summer of 2026, they could go all out for another French defender, Ibrahim Konate, whose contract with Liverpool is also set to expire after the end of the ongoing season.
