Anthony Taylor, an Englishman who is familiar with PSG, will officiate their Champions League clash. His history with the Parisians is extensive and largely successful.

UEFA has appointed the referees for the Champions League Matchday 7 fixtures, and Englishman Anthony Taylor has been chosen to officiate Tuesday night's Sporting vs. Paris Saint-Germain match. A referee who knows the Parisians very well, the non-British team he has officiated the most.

PSG will once again be officiated by a referee it knows well this season in the Champions League, one who will even remind it of its triumphant last season.

For this seventh matchday of the so-called league phase of the Champions League, UEFA has named Anthony Taylor to referee Tuesday night's standout match between Sporting Portugal and PSG.

A safe choice given the significant experience of the 47-year-old Englishman, a figure in European refereeing for years, though rarely appointed for finals. Last season, in fact, he did not officiate after the group stage.

UEFA Assigns Veteran Official Anthony Taylor to PSG vs. Sporting Clash

With no less than nine PSG matches officiated, Anthony Taylor knows the Parisians very well, as it is the non-British team he has officiated the most in his career, far ahead of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, or even Barcelona, which he has officiated six times each.

Overall, the record is very positive for the Parisians with six wins, one draw, and two defeats. The first match dates back over ten years, a victory against Shakhtar Donetsk in December 2015, with scorers Lucas Moura and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. To put it simply, Taylor has seen it all from the QSI-era PSG.

Among these nine matches, the last one is both a good and a bad memory: the Club World Cup quarterfinal against Bayern, with a 2-0 victory, but also two players sent off: Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, however, was not sanctioned for his rough challenge on Musiala's legs, much to the dismay of the Bavarians. A very English style of refereeing, then, with rough contact allowed but not bad intent.

Regarding Sporting Lisboa, he is conversely much less familiar, having only crossed paths with them twice, for one win and one loss.

The lost match dates back to December 2024, on Club Brugge's pitch (1-2), with four yellow cards received to boot, while the win was in a Europa League playoff nearly six years ago, against Istanbul Basaksehir (3-1), with a penalty awarded to the Turkish visitors for a foul on a certain Demba Ba.
