Barcelona are the latest European giants linked with Bournemouth star Junior Kroupi, but the Cherries have no intention of selling the teenage sensation. With 12 Premier League goals already and no release clause in his contract, Bournemouth see the Frenchman as central to their future.
Interest in in-form AFC Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi is continuing to intensify, with reports from Sky Sports News suggesting that Barcelona are the latest European giants to join the race for the teenage sensation - but, amid the interest, Cherries remain steadfast about his immediate future.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough campaign on the south coast, emerging as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young forwards. However, despite mounting attention from across Europe, Bournemouth remain adamant that Kroupi will not be sold this summer.
According to reports from The I Paper, several of England’s biggest clubs are monitoring the Frenchman closely. Carabao Cup winners Manchester City and Champions League final bound Arsenal are said to be interested, as are Liverpool and Manchester United. But Barcelona’s emergence only underlines how quickly Kroupi’s reputation has grown during his debut Premier League season.
Action Images via Reuters/John SibleyKroupi has scored 12 league goals in 30 appearances, despite starting just over half of those matches. His efficiency in front of goal has been particularly eye-catching, outperforming his expected goals tally and averaging a goal roughly every two hours of football at various stages of the campaign. With 43 shots producing 20 efforts on target, the youngster has demonstrated the composure and instinct of a far more experienced striker.
Initially arriving from FC Lorient in a deal worth around £10 million, Kroupi’s recruitment already looks like another masterstroke from Bournemouth’s increasingly admired football structure. Outgoing technical director Simon Francis was among the key figures involved in identifying and securing the forward, continuing a recruitment model that has helped the club consistently uncover emerging talent before their market value explodes.
Crucially for Bournemouth, Kroupi’s contract reportedly contains no release clause, giving the club complete control over his immediate future. Discussions over an improved deal are expected, with the Cherries determined to build around the striker rather than cash in at the first opportunity.
There is also a growing feeling internally that Bournemouth are entering a new phase under owner Bill Foley. Unlike previous summers, where financial pressures and release clauses left the club vulnerable to losing key players, there is confidence that the core of this squad can remain together as they continue pushing towards European qualification.
Even with the departures of head coach Andoni Iraola and Simon Francis, there is belief that the club’s long-term structure is now firmly established. Incoming head coach Marco Rose is already being integrated behind the scenes - having been in the country for a couple of days earlier last week, while Bournemouth’s data-led recruitment and succession planning continue to earn praise throughout the game.
Kroupi’s rise is perhaps the clearest evidence yet of how far Bournemouth have come. Still only 19, he has already become one of the Premier League’s standout young attackers - and unless the club dramatically change their stance, supporters can expect him to remain at the Vitality Stadium for at least another season.
