Bournemouth Issue Europa Travel Warning as Away Points Are Confirmed

AFC Bournemouth have issued a warning to supporters over the use of third-party travel providers ahead of the club's maiden UEFA Europa League campaign, while confirming they will not be offering organised travel for league-phase away fixtures.

Following consultation with supporters, the Cherries revealed that although there was strong interest in attending European away matches, only a small proportion of fans expected to use official organised travel.

Instead, the majority indicated that they planned to make their own arrangements for flights and accommodation, with the club also recognising the potential risks surrounding organised travel, including cancellations and the varying preferences of supporters.

As a result, Bournemouth will not provide official supporter travel for their league-phase fixtures, although the approach could be reviewed should the club progress further in the competition.

The club said later stages may provide more time for planning and a clearer indication of demand, potentially opening the door to organised travel at that point.

For now, supporters travelling independently will be provided with local travel guidance once Bournemouth have received the relevant information from local authorities, police and host clubs.

Bournemouth have also moved to warn supporters about companies advertising European travel packages using AFC Bournemouth-related imagery or language. 

With many groups and services appearing on Facebook over the last month, the club stressed that, unless specifically stated otherwise, such companies are not affiliated with or endorsed by AFC Bournemouth and, crucially, will not have access to the club's official ticket allocations.

Supporters considering booking through third-party providers have therefore been advised to carry out their own checks and carefully consider terms and conditions, cancellation arrangements and any other risks associated with making a booking.

The warning is particularly relevant given the huge anticipation surrounding Bournemouth's first-ever European campaign, with supporters likely to be searching for flights, hotels and travel packages as soon as the league-phase draw is made.

The club have also confirmed how away tickets for individual Europa League fixtures are expected to be sold.

Subject to the size of the allocation received from each host club, priority will broadly follow Bournemouth's existing Premier League away points structure:

However, Bournemouth have warned that the threshold for each individual fixture could change depending on the allocation provided. Therefore, if Cherries receive a limited allocation, the thresholds could potentially rise.

That could prove particularly significant for some of the club's European trips, with away allocations varying considerably depending on the stadium and host club.

In addition to the existing Global Cherries away ballot, Bournemouth will also offer ballots to Season Ticket Holders and Maximum Home Point Holders.

Where a fixture sells out through the away points process, tickets reserved for those additional supporter groups will instead be made available through the relevant ballots. If tickets remain after the points process, those groups could be given the opportunity to purchase tickets directly.

The club will announce the specific dates, points criteria and ballot arrangements ahead of each fixture going on sale.

Importantly, Bournemouth have also confirmed that attending Europa League matches will neither add to supporters' existing home or away points totals nor penalise those unable to attend.

The club acknowledged the additional financial commitment European football will place on supporters, particularly those who have followed Bournemouth consistently over many years.

Premier League home and away points systems will therefore remain separate, meaning supporters who cannot afford or are unable to attend European fixtures will not lose their position within the existing points structure.

Likewise, those travelling across Europe to follow the Cherries will not gain additional priority points for doing so.

With Bournemouth's European adventure now rapidly approaching, the announcements provide supporters with an early indication of what to expect - from how away tickets will be prioritised to an important warning over travel companies looking to capitalise on the club's historic first venture into the Europa League.
