Burst Water Main As Vitality Stadium Redevelopment Makes Big Progress

AFC Bournemouth's Dean Court redevelopment has taken another visible step forward, with significant progress made across the Main Stand expansion, external infrastructure and supporter access routes as work continues ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The latest construction activity has seen the roof completed over the southern balcony extension, while new external cladding has begun transforming the appearance of the enlarged hospitality areas.

Perhaps the most eye-catching change from outside the ground is the installation of glazed roof panels at both ends of the Main Stand. Previously open sections at the north-west and south-west corners have now been enclosed, giving the expanded stand a much more finished appearance.

Further progress has also been made on both wing extensions, where vertical cladding supports have now been installed across multiple levels. The northern wing extension has also received its roof structure, meaning attention is likely to turn towards installing the glass-reinforced backing system before the external cladding follows.

Outside the stadium, supporter infrastructure continues to develop rapidly.

Several of the new turnstile canopies have now been roofed and clad in black, giving supporters one of the clearest glimpses yet of the stadium's finished aesthetic.

An additional central turnstile canopy has also appeared in front of the Main Stand reception, having been erected over the past week before quickly receiving its roof and partial cladding.

Perimeter fencing has also expanded significantly around the site, including new sections close to the Pavilion and along the northern boundary. Contractors have used a Longo Rhino Z Pro suction excavator to expose services before installing fence posts, allowing foundations to be prepared with minimal disruption to existing utilities.

Attention is also turning towards the future corner developments.

Concrete has now been poured in the south-east corner, where steelwork is expected to begin shortly once the foundations have cured. Formwork is also expected on the opposite diagonal corner in preparation for further structural work.

Although the concrete footprint currently appears narrow when viewed from above, the eventual design will leave open walkways beneath the supporting columns, allowing supporters to circulate around the stadium as originally planned.

Progress is also now starting to become visible on the new outside broadcast compound.

Excavation work is underway for glass reinforced plastic service chambers that will accommodate television, communications and media infrastructure. The facility will also include a Hawkeye cabin alongside welfare facilities including accessible, male, female and gender-neutral toilets.

Nearby, the new pedestrian route east of the Main Stand has become increasingly defined, with kerbing installed ahead of surfacing works. The pathway will eventually reconnect supporters travelling towards the Avonbourne Schools and Littledown.

Inside the stadium, the new playing surface continues to establish well.

Having previously remained covered while the seed germinated, the pitch is now entering its growth phase, with regular irrigation already producing a noticeably greener surface.

With around a month remaining before competitive football returns, the playing surface appears to be progressing as expected.

One unexpected incident briefly stole the spotlight during Back of the Net's filming of the redevelopment.

A water main adjacent to the Parkview Apartments suddenly burst, sending large volumes of water flowing towards the stadium footprint.

The leak was reported immediately to Bournemouth Water, who attended the scene and resolved the issue before any significant disruption occurred. The incident was unrelated to the redevelopment works themselves but briefly created concern given the proximity to ongoing construction and utilities.

While much of the activity remains structural rather than cosmetic, the redevelopment is increasingly beginning to resemble the finished vision.

With roofs completed on several extensions, cladding spreading across the Main Stand, turnstile entrances rapidly taking shape and foundations continuing around the stadium perimeter, supporters are now seeing meaningful visible progress almost every week.

Attention is expected to remain focused on the installation of steelwork in the south-east corner, continued external cladding, completion of supporter access routes and further infrastructure works as AFC Bournemouth edge ever closer to welcoming fans back to an increasingly transformed Vitality Stadium.
